How to search for IT Jobs in the UK
As a specialist IT Recruitment Agency we are often called by candidates wanting advice as to how to find a suitable position. Now as much as we’d like to assist each and everyone who calls in, it simply isn’t possible given the 2.5mn+ unemployed.
Work on your CV
It is well worth spending time ensuring that your CV has been presented well. There are plenty of resources available online which will enable you to find a suitable template but running searches for an “IT Manager CV” or a “Software Developer CV” will give you ideas as to the sort of content that you should have in your CV.
Tell your contacts on Social Networking sites
It is always worth telling your contacts on Google+, Linkedin and Facebook that you are looking for work (although this is on the assumption that you are currently out of work – otherwise please be very careful)
Use IT Job Boards
There are a number of IT centric job boards which are worth searching on including CW Jobs and Jobserve.
Add your CV to CV databases
Most agencies will subscribe to online CV databases and use these as a resource to search for candidates. It is worth adding your CV to Reed, JobServe, Jobsite, CV Library and Monster to broaden your chances. Also log in regularly to show potential employers / agencies that you are still looking for work.
Apply to companies directly
Although obviously CV Screen is an IT Recruitment Agency, we can not stress strongly enough that candidates should approach companies directly. Use Google to search for local companies and also companies for whom you would like to work for and send a targeted letter / email.
Perseverance
In the current marketplace, it is easy to get downbeat when it takes a little longer to secure work but remaining positive and preparing for interviews correctly will give you the best possible chance to find a new position.
Good Luck
